Kat Calvin ’05 Earns Press for Entrepreneurship, Mentoring

BET network has named Kelley Amber Tompkins (“Kat”) Calvin '05 to its gallery of Blacks on the Brink of Greatness, recognizing her for her entrepreneurial spirit and for founding: BlackGirlsHack, now renamed Blerdology, an organization to mentor young African American women interested in computer programming; the networking organization DC Young Entrepreneurs; and Michelle in Training, a group named for the First Lady that educates and mentors girls in the Washington, D.C., area.

Calvin is featured in Black Enterprise for her role in the National Day of Civic Hacking set for June 1-2, and she has been invited today to participate in a PBS show titled To the Contrary. Calvin also has a strong interest in fashion and has created two related groups, LilyPad and Character’s Closet.
