Members of the media are invited to the dedication of Mount Holyoke's new track and field Saturday, October 25, at 1 :30 p.m. The event, part of MHC's Family and Friends Weekend and its Board of Trustee meeting weekend, will take place on site preceding the varsity field hockey game against MIT.
The track and field, a synthetic multipurpose turf field with lights, surrounded by an eight-lane track with a nine-lane straightaway, was opened in September 2007, enabling the College to host NCAA-sanctioned events and NEWMAC competitions for the first time since 1996. Its dedication will closely follow that of the College's newest residence hall; that private dedication ceremony will take place Friday, October 24.
The new residence hall--the College's first in four decades--opened to students in September. The $30 million facility, which houses 175 students in singles, doubles and suites, is 72,000 SF in size. It is MHC's third LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified building, along with Blanchard Campus Center and Kendade Hall, and was designed to be 45 percent more energy efficient than required under the state's building code.
Both new facilities have been funded by the ongoing Campaign for Mount Holyoke.
