The Mount Holyoke Music Department opens its 2006-2007 concert season on September 29 with a faculty recital featuring Linda Laderach, violinist; Kivie Cahn-Lipman, cellist; and Larry Schipull, pianist in a performance of Schubert's B-flat Trio. Also featured on the program are Melinda Spratlan, soprano, and Gary Steigerwalt, pianist, who will be performing three Emily Dickinson poems set to music by Aaron Copland, and five Lieder by Hugo Wolf. A highlight of the program will be the performance of the Nordsee Lieder, poems by Heinrich Heine set to music by Scottish composer Helen Hopekirk. Steigerwalt, who is writing a biography of Hopekirk, has found no record of a public performance of the entire set in his research, so this will be the first performance of the songs as a complete cycle.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will take place in McCulloch Auditorium, Pratt Hall, at Mount Holyoke at 8 pm. For more information. please email Michèle Scanlonor call 413-538-2306.
