Rent, the critically acclaimed show that won the Tony Award for Best Musical, received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and packed theatres for 12 years on Broadway, is MHC’s spring musical this year.
Performances will be staged in Rooke Theatre April 3–5 and April 11–12 at 8 pm, and at 2 pm on April 6 and 13.
Based on Puccini’s opera La Bohème, this moving, contemporary rock musical takes place in New York City’s East Village and celebrates the lives of young artists and musicians struggling to create and survive. This musical theatre phenomenon takes a fresh look at friendship, love, and the value of life.
Directed by Noah Tuleja with musical direction by Catherine Kay, set and costume design by Vanessa James, lighting design by Lara Dubin, sound design by Scott McArthur, and choreography by Debra Vega, Rent features a cast and band comprising students from surrounding communities.
President Lynn Pasquerella will make a special appearance during the April 5 and April 13 performances. She became a fan of the musical after attending the tenth anniversary reunion performance of the original Broadway cast in 2006.
Ticket prices are $10 for general audiences and $5 for students and senior citizens. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 413-538-2406 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
