The senior studio art majors' exhibition titled Candidwill be on view May 6-27 at the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum. The exhibition offers MHC artists a final opportunity to present their creative talents to the community. The show will feature the work of 10 senior studio art majors. The pieces that will be on view were specifically created for this exhibition and cover a wide assortment of media ranging from painting, collage, and sculpture to screen printing, textile, and multimedia works.
"It is very exciting to have this show as a culmination of my studio work at MHC," Kristen Dolloff '06 said. "It is a special occasion and a unique opportunity to share my work with friends, family, and other students. I hope that the show will bring an appreciation of students in other disciplines for the work of our art students."
Since this show covers a wide array of subjects and styles, the theme of the exhibit needed to focus on a common aspect of all of the students' work. Therefore the art students finally selected the title Candid, which is defined as being free from prejudice, characterized by openness and sincerity of expression, not posed or rehearsed.
This exhibition is the finale of several different student studio art shows on campus. Currently on view is the studio art minors' show, No Minor Feet, in the Blanchard Art Gallery through May 4.
The opening reception for Candidwill take place Sunday, May 7, from 3 to 5 pm in the Hinchcliff Reception Hall of the art museum. The event is free and open to the public.
