UMMA, the Muslim Student Association of Mount Holyoke, will host the first annual Islamic conference titled "Rediscovering the Prophet" Saturday, April 22, from 2:30 to 9:30 pm in Hooker Auditorium.
Speakers include Arsalan Iftikhar, the legal director of CAIR National (Council on American Islamic Relations), who will give a talk titled "Islamophobia and the Patriot Act," and Hisham Mahmoud, an Arabic lecturer at Yale University, who will give a talk titled "The Gospel of Jesus According to Muhammad." A panel discussion on the Danish Cartoon Controversy will include Nouman Ali Khan, the founder of the Husna Learning Foundation; Badr Malik, the executive director of CAIR Connecticut; and Hamza Ismail Collins, the civil rights and communications director of CAIR Connecticut, who will lead the discussion. Ali Hazratji, the president of the West Springfield Mosque, will give a lecture titled "Walking in the Footsteps of Muhammad."
Guests from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York are expected to attend.
