Revolutionary Summer: The Birth of American Independence (Random House, 2013), the eleventh and newest book by Professor Emeritus Joseph Ellis, former Professor of History on the Ford Foundation, is currently listed at number 11 on the New York Times list of best-selling nonfiction books.
Ellis, who won the Pulitzer Prize for his book Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation (2000), is also the author of the National Book Award-winning American Sphinx (1997), among other best-sellers. He specializes in American history, especially the revolutionary generation, history and biography, presidential history, and the roots of American foreign policy.
