Renowned math teacher to speak at Odyssey

As an award-winning teacher and director of the Mathematics Leadership Programs at Mount Holyoke College, Michael Flynn oversees professional learning opportunities for teachers, administrators and staff developers.

In his new book, “Beyond Answers: Exploring Mathematical Practices with Young Children,” Flynn, who was a classroom teacher for 14 years, offers a step-by-step guide for teaching mathematics to children in kindergarten through second grade. The guide is intended for teachers, coaches, professional development staff and study groups, among others.

Flynn also directs the Mathematics Leadership Programs at Mount Holyoke. He will give a reading at the Odyssey Bookshop on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m.  

Flynn is the recipient of the Massachusetts Teacher of the Year award, a National Education Association Award for Teaching Excellence and a Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching.
