Students who participated in summer research programs will present their projects at the Summer Research Symposium October 20 as part of Family and Friends Weekend 2006.
Poster presentations will take place from noon to 1 pm, and oral presentations will be from 1 to 2:30 pm, in the Kendade Atrium.
The students received funding from one of several summer research programs, including the Mount Holyoke Summer Research Fellowship Program, WEED Summer Research Scholar Program, MHC-Yale Summer Undergraduate Fellowship Program, Center for Global Initiatives Internship Program, Global Studies Summer Fellowship Program, and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Summer Research Program.
"The oral and poster projects presented will reflect the creativity, diversity, and talent of our students," said Connie Allen, dean of the classes of 2006 and 2007. "Mount Holyoke is committed to providing and funding summer research opportunities for our students, many of whom have worked with mentors here at MHC and at a number of prestigious institutions in this country and abroad."
For many students, this work will lead to independent study and thesis work with their various MHC mentors.
The symposium is sponsored by the Office of Academic Deans, the Center for Global Initiatives, the Department of Biological Sciences, and the Office of the Associate Dean of Faculty for Science.
