Major: Biology

The Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies is a private research facility that conducts ecological and environmental research on a wide variety of topics. Scientists at the institute study issues including nutrient cycling, disease ecology, biogeochemistry, climate change, and the Hudson River. All the scientists are extremely knowledgeable and always willing to provide assistance. While at the institute, I mainly worked for the LaDeau Lab which studies community and disease ecology where I had the opportunity to conduct both field and laboratory investigations. My study looked at semi-permanent and temporary forested pools, examining how different factors affected mosquito abundance. I also did some work for the environmental monitoring program manager with regards to flood events in a local river and how matter was transported during these events.
