Local expenses: Housing will not be provided. Students are responsible for finding their own housing.
Nuestras Raíces seeks a full-time intern to work at our farm for the 2018 growing season. In general, the work will provide hands-on experience and education in the fields of urban agriculture, sustainable agriculture, food access issues, cultural crops, Latino and migrant farmers, environmental justice, livestock production, vegetable production, permaculture, season extension and soil health. The work will include all aspects of working on a production farm: seeding, planting, weeding, hoeing, harvesting and washing vegetable crops plus other jobs such as building structures, making woodchip paths, instructing youth and volunteers, organizing storage spaces, and other projects as directed by the farm manager.

Nuestras Raíces is a grassroots urban agriculture organization based in Holyoke MA. Our mission is to create healthy environments, celebrate “agri-culture,” harness our collective energy, and to advance our vision of a just and sustainable future. In addition to our central office/community space and community gardens, we have a 30-acre urban farm, on which Nuestras Raíces both produces vegetables for local markets and rents out plots to Puerto Rican farmers.

While we don't require the intern to have previous farm experience, a strong work ethic is crucial to this work. Candidates should be physically fit and able to lift 50 pounds. A willingness to learn and take a leadership role is also desired. Spanish fluency is a plus but not required.
