My internship was with University College Cork (or UCC) in southern Ireland. I was helping two PhD students with their research for a period of 6 weeks. For me, this internship was my first experience working on research outside of MHC and it was incredibly enlightening. One project I worked on involved handling live crabs, and in another I designed traps for catching elusive amphipods. While I learned a lot (probably more than I wanted to!) about crab and amphipod identification, the most important lesson that I learned through my experience was that the work that awaits me after I graduate is not as frightening as I had once imagined it. In fact, I am now really looking forward to doing similar research and internships after I leave Mount Holyoke.
