Position Title: Global Warming Intern
Location: Santa Fe, NM or Denver, CO
The Global Warming intern will play a critical role in the effort to fight global warming by helping to organize the one voice that has not yet been mobilized on the issue: the American public.
WildEarth Guardians frequently challenges state and federal authorities in demanding that policy decisions on public lands take public health and public interest into consideration. 2009 marks the beginning of bold new campaigns within the organization to promote wide scale implementation of renewable energy in the West, specifically roof top solar power. And, with motivated congressional members recently elected, this is the perfect time to turn up the heat on solidifying clean energy campaign promises. Big oil and gas have been lobbying to prevent measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions long enough. By mobilizing the public and creating innovative a creative methods of engagement, we will hold our decision makers accountable and bring a new energy future for the West.
Responsibilities: phoning membership to recruit and manage volunteers, conducting online research, assisting in the development and distribution of educational materials, organizing events and media opportunities and additional projects as needed.
Qualifications: Applicants must have excellent verbal and written communications skills, strong online research skills, the ability to work well independently and multitask and enthusiasm for protecting the environment. Candidates should be computer savvy and comfortable on the phone. Knowledge of financial institutions and federal funding a plus.
