Summer 2018 Information
The Summer 2018 Housing Application is now live and can be accessed via MyMountHolyoke under the Self-Service Menu/Request Application. Applications are due Friday, April 20, 2018.
A limited number of residence hall rooms are available on campus during the summer. Priority is given to current students working or doing research with a Mount Holyoke College Faculty member or international students needing to remain on campus for the summer. If space is available, students working, taking classes or doing research off campus will be considered. Non-Mount Holyoke students, new students, graduating seniors, students recently withdrawn from the College, students returning from leave (including study abroad), or planning on taking a leave (including study abroad) for the Fall semester are not eligible for summer housing.
For those students working with faculty or department on campus, the first step in applying for summer housing must be initiated by an MHC Faculty member or employer. Summer Housing Applications are available in late March. The summer housing application deadline is April 20, 2018. Housing assignment notifications are sent at the beginning of May.
In order to apply for housing, students must clear all of their financial obligations with the College through the Student Financial Services Office and clear any other holds in place by Health Center, Counseling Services, Dean of Studies or Residential Life.
Summer Housing is available from May 27, 2018 through August 18, 2018. Outside of the defined summer session, housing will only be available on a limited exception basis.
All students who remain on campus must commit to stay on campus for at least 4 consecutive weeks (between May 27 through August 18). The three timeframes available for summer housing are 12 weeks (whole session), 8 weeks and 4 weeks. The 12, 8 and 4 week sessions were chosen because most students who are doing research or an internship do so for those time periods. The weeks must be consecutive and within the May 27, 2018 - August 18, 2018 time period. Students will be billed for the full time period that they sign up for, whether they stay the whole period or not. The weeks run from Sunday to Saturday and therefore students should make arrangements for a Sunday check-in. Rates are not prorated for partial stays or a check-in that does not occur on a Sunday.
No dining facilities will be open between May 27, 2018 and June 21, 2018 at dinner. The summer residence hall will have a kitchen for residents to utilize.
The costs for housing during summer of 2018 are:
- 12 week: single room $1,420, double room $1,102
- 8 week: single room $947, double room $735
- 4 week: single room $475, double room $370
Single rooms are not guaranteed. Priority for single rooms goes to students who will be staying for the full 12 week term.
Meal Plan Info:
Meals will be available when the Dining Center is open on a per meal basis at a special residential summer student rate. The rates will be: breakfast $4.00, lunch $6.00 and dinner $9.00. The dates of operation begin with dinner on June 21st through lunch on Sunday, August 12th, with the exception of Sunday, June 24th there will be no lunch service, Wednesday, June 27th there will be no lunch or dinner service and Thursday, June 28th there will be no breakfast or lunch service.
Students needing housing before May 27th and after August 18th
Transitional housing is the period before summer housing begins and after summer housing ends. Transitional housing dates do NOT count toward the minimum 4 week housing criteria.
Students who request exceptions to stay on campus before May 27, 2018 or after August 18, 2018 timeframe must contact Residential Life directly, must be eligible, and plan to stay on campus for at least one of the summer housing timeframes (12, 8, or 4 weeks). Special consideration is given, but not promised, to students who need housing between the end of spring semester and May 27, 2018 and those who require housing after August 18, 2018. This exception will not be made for students ineligible for summer housing or to facilitate a late stay or early arrival for convenience. There will be separate charges associated with any exceptions made for an additional stay. Meals will be offered on a cash basis during these weeks before and after summer housing.
Students who request transitional housing before summer housing begins must be in summer housing a minimum of 4 weeks beginning May 27th. Students who request transitional housing after August 18th must be in summer housing a minimum of 4 weeks beginning July 22nd.
Students who are in transitional housing between May 8th and May 26th and cancel their summer housing will be charged for 4 weeks of summer housing in addition to the transitional housing rate. Students who cancel their summer housing prior to August 18th, their transitional housing will also be cancelled.
The cost for transitional housing are:
- May 8-May 26: single room $322, double room $251
- August 19-September 2: single room $237, double room $185 (Based on your Fall 2018 assignment)
