Study Abroad with Internship

Engaging with local organizations and issues beyond the classroom

Structured experiential learning provides an excellent opportunity for students to enrich their time abroad while gaining experience, skills, and perspectives that will advance their academic program and career planning.

The McCulloch Center has identified courses that have a rigorous academic basis with an embedded experiential learning component. Students who elect the courses listed below will receive credit here for the required course that accompanies the internship or other experience. The usual criteria for credit transfer apply: the course must be graded, students must earn a C- or better, the course must appear on the originating program or university’s official transcript, maximum of 16 credits per semester.

Only courses of this type that appear on this list qualify for credit; students who elect courses that are designated as internships or community service in other programs will not receive credit for those courses.

Many other programs offer experiential learning and hands-on research opportunities through more traditional liberal arts courses, and by facilitating volunteer or service work on a not-for-credit basis.

Note that MHC does not approve the SIT Internships, now offered in many locations as an option, so students must choose the ISP.
