Opera Anyone? Connecticut Opera Express to Perform at MHC

On November 9, The Three Little Pigs will be performed to the music of Mozart.

WFCR (88.5 FM), public radio for western New England and a National Public Radio (NPR) affiliate, will present "Saturday at the Opera" with Connecticut Opera Express on Saturday, November 9, in Mary Woolley Hall's Chapin Auditorium. The Hartford-based company, the touring company of Connecticut Opera, will offer two performances. At 11 am, Connecticut Opera Express will perform The Three Little Pigs, a musical dramatization of the popular children's classic, featuring music by Mozart from The Magic Flute, Cosi fan Tutte, and Don Giovanni. The Three Little Pigs is recommended for elementary school audiences. At 2 pm, the company will present OperaTunities, a musical introduction to opera's greatest hits with popular arias, duets, and ensembles, and some audience participation. OperaTunities will be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. Mount Holyoke is sponsoring both performances; proceeds will benefit the programs and services of WFCR.

Connecticut Opera first began performances in Hartford in 1942. The company and its resident artists have been presenting education and outreach programs in schools, theatres, performance spaces, and other venues for more than twenty-five years. Separate tickets are required for The Three Little Pigs (general admission: $8 in advance; $10 at the door) and OperaTunities (Producer's Circle tickets are $20 and include premium seating and a postperformance reception; orchestra seats are $10; balcony seats are $8). Tickets are available from the UMass Fine Arts Center box office at 545-2511 or 800-999-UMASS. WFCR's special events series continues with a performance by the Capitol Steps on Thursday, December 12, at 8 pm, in Chapin Auditorium.

The counter is 3,129
