Another congressional revelation--LeighAna Walker '00 learned a lot from her summer internship with Congressperson Max Sandlin of Texas. She attended environmental and occupational health and safety hearings, conducted research, dealt with constituent questions, and observed life in the governmental fast lane. She even got to meet President Clinton. Still, Walker's sure that life on the Hill is not for her. "I definitely don't want to be a congressman. They work very hard," she told the News-Journal of Longview, Texas. "It's not the working. I wouldn't be able to handle the stress ... Not many people believe it, but they really work hard up there. They are not just frittering away tax dollars. Some of them worked from 6:30 am until 10:00 pm. Congressmen work ninety hours a week."
