Sonny Rollins, "the saxophone colossus of jazz," entertained a packed house in Chapin for nearly three hours last week. Jazz aficionados said the concert lived up to its billing as a thrilling and generous performance. Look for more music at Chapin over the next six weeks as WFCR, the Amherst-based public radio station, continues its concert series at the College. On Sunday, October 26, Cesaria Evora, the compelling and intoxicating Cape Verdean singer, will perform. On Sunday, November 23, the Bulgarian Singers "Angelite" will join with Tuvan throat singers "Huun-Huur-Tu" and folk-jazz performers Sergey Starostin and Mikhail Alperin in a unique intercultural project for voice. Tickets are available by calling 1-800-THE-TICK and should also be available at reduced prices in advance of the concerts for members of the Mount Holyoke community.
