Making a difference one nail at a time Local toddlers will soon have a playground to call their own thanks to Dean of Religious Life Andrea Ayvazian, fifteen MHC students, and a cadre of community volunteers, who will become construction workers for a day as part of Make A Difference Day on October 24. The group plans to build a new toddler playground at the Jackson Street School in Northampton, which already boasts one of the best wooden play structures in the area for the elementary school set. This is the first year that Eliot House has organized an MHC effort as part of this national community service day. Established in 1992 by USA Weekend and the Points of Light Foundation, Make A Difference Day has grown annually; this year twenty-four million Americans are expected to volunteer in their communities.
Card sharp Artwork submitted by Jessica Klein '02 has been selected as a holiday greeting card design by the Babies and Children's Hospital of New York Presbyterian Hospital. Each year, the Artworks greeting cards program raises money to support programs for children suffering from acute and chronic illnesses. Klein's illustration is a brightly colored drawing titled Le Café, showing people eating and drinking at sidewalk tables while large red holiday bows festoon nearby buildings.
