ABOUT US

Mission Statement:

To actively increase understanding of the global ramifications of food production and consumption by
reconnecting the Mount Holyoke community with our local food chain
.

We assert ourselves as the Mount Holyoke College Food Justice Society. We became a registered student organization in the fall of 2008, after two years of organizing. We encourage thoughtfulness about food consumption and production. We are dedicated to actively increasing understanding of the global ramifications of food production and consumption by reconnecting the Mount Holyoke community with our local food chain. Through deliberate collaboration with diverse Mount Holyoke students, faculty and staff, Five College, and regional and national Real Food partners, we seek to enhance awareness resulting in positive institutional change.  This will be accomplished through the growing, cooking, eating, and sharing of Real food.  We want Mount Holyoke College to demonstrate these values by integrating ecological principles into the curriculum and choosing environmentally conscious suppliers when purchasing food.  We find this work fulfilling because it feeds our bodies and minds in ways that are in harmony with our social, political, economic, and natural environment on a local and global scale.
