Liga Filipina is a group of people connected by a shared passion, curiousity, and love for Filipino culture. But more importantly, Liga Filipina is a sisterhood, a family-- a kapamilya.
Allyson is a junior (go Yellow Sphinxes!) and is working towards a Comparative Ethnic Studies major. She loves visiting her home in Jersey City, NJ, eating sinigang na salmon or simply toyo at kanin. On campus, you can find her community-advising, on the rugby pitch, or rocking all things purple.
A double major in computer science and critical social thought, Camille is a proud blue lion who enjoys going to hackathons, debate tournaments, and all the coffee houses in the Valley. She came to Mount Holyoke due to the "peer pressure" of her ate Moho's and she couldn't be more thankful.
Cristina is a first-year from San Francisco, California who is currently undecided but is definitely taking advantage of the liberal arts (read: by taking classes, varied and numerous). She loves theater, science, math, philosophy and live music. This semester you can catch her in Rent! (Break a leg, Cristina!)
Jennifer is an English and Environmental Studies double major. She interns with Advancement for Rural Kids, where she helps research and develop green technologies for use in rural Philippines. She is also a darn good cook and can probably make the best leche flan you've ever had.
A bunso turned ate, Patricia is a senior International Relations major from somewhere in between Laguna and Pampanga. She calls many places kapuso and considers everyone a part of her kapamilya.
Rina is a sophomore majoring in International Relations and minoring in Chinese. She grew up in Manila, Philippines with three dogs and an unhealthy obsession with tapsilog. Although she has traveled thousands of miles away from home to attend college, she plans to return and visit as many of the Philippine islands as she can. Other interests include instagramming and astronomy.
Tessa is a proud Filipina from New Jersey (no surprise there) who loves music and good food like Nilaga, Lumpia, Pandan ice cream...she could go on. Tessa likes playing volleyball and the piano, and sometimes taking the mic for some good karaoke. She is also Toni's "Ate" but she feel like a sister to all my lovely Liga members. Tessa loves God, her family, and Liga! :)
Toni is in the Class of 2017 (go Green Griffins!) and is so blessed to be a part of Liga Filipina. Through LIGA, Toni hopes to spread awareness of her culture, rich in history, tradition, music, and delicious food. She hopes to achieve this not only on the MHC campus but also across the Five Colleges. Outside LIGA, you can find Toni hitting the books (literally), singing with the V8s (usually), or jamming to Beyoncé (always).
