Alan H. Bloomgarden, Ed.D. is the Director of Community Engagement at Mount Holyoke College, where he has administered the Community-Based Learning (CBL) Program since 2008. Dr. Bloomgarden develops and supports collaborations among faculty, students, and community partners, and teaches courses on social action for 25-30 Community Fellows in year-long, capacity-building internships with community organizations in South Hadley, Holyoke, Springfield, and the region.
He has a doctorate in higher education leadership and policy from UMass Amherst, an MPhil in Peace Studies from the University of Bradford (UK), and a B.A. in International Relations from Bucknell University.
Dr. Bloomgarden has published on campus-community partnership, community engagement and liberal arts colleges in the Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning, Metropolitan Universities, the Journal of Public Scholarship in Higher Education. He was a Governor’s appointee to the 2012 Massachusetts Special Commission on Civic Engagement and Learning, and is co-founder and a board member of Leadership Pioneer Valley.
