This course will provide an overview of the field of adult abnormal psychology. We will discuss psychological disorders, conceptualizations of “abnormality,” clinical research, and various clinical interventions. The course will discuss historic and current controversies and concerns regarding mental health and mental health treatment. The course will examine multiple aspects of field of abnormal psychology as it exists within a larger context and is shaped by beliefs and perceptions unique to specific historical, national, sociocultural, gender, racial, socioeconomic, political, and environmental factors.
