Summer Institute Details

Daily Schedule

Attending a summer institute requires a serious commitment. Sessions are held between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm Eastern Time Monday through Thursday and 8:30 am and 12:30 pm on Friday. In addition, reading and writing assignments are scheduled for each evening.

Cost

The non-credit price for a one-week summer institute is $549. This includes lunch Monday through Friday.

Credits

The for-credit price for a one-week summer institute is $1,550. Participants will receive two graduate credits from Mount Holyoke College.

DMI courses have MATH designations while our coaching and facilitation courses have MTHED (Math Ed) designations.

Partner District Discount: Schools that contract with Michael Flynn and/or Sarah Bent for professional learning are considered partner districts. Teachers from partner districts receive a 50% discount on for-credit registrations.

Meals and Accommodations

Participants will make their own arrangements for overnight housing if you require it. You will also need to make arrangements for breakfast and dinner. Lunch is provided daily.

South Hadley is a small New England town. Hotels are located in neighboring cities and towns within a 15-20 minute drive of Mount Holyoke College. We recommend Homewood Suites in Holyoke, MA because they offer complimentary breakfast and evening socials with appetizers and beverages each day.

Acceptance materials will include additional information.

Refunds

If you are accepted into an institute and cannot attend, refunds will be offered only if your place in the program can be filled either by another educator at your site or through our wait list.

Materials

Each participant is responsible for purchasing the course materials.

For Developing Mathematical Ideas institutes (DMI), purchase the casebook for the appropriate DMI module. See DMI Materials for more information about the description, cost, and purchasing information. Plan to order well in advance to receive the book in time to bring with you.

For DMI-Facilitation Institutes, purchase the Facilitator Package for the appropriate DMI module. This includes the facilitator guide and videos. You will also need the corresponding casebook.
