Campus Ecology and Environmental Monitoring

At Mount Holyoke College we have initiated an Environmental Monitoring. As part of this program we are monitoring water quality in the Stony Brook watershed, and weather parameters at four locations.

We are measuring both physiochemical and biological indicators of water quality.

  • Physiochemical - water flow, temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, nutrients (nitrate, ammonium ion, phosphate), turbidity.
  • Biological (infrequently) - fitoplankton (algae), zooplankton, invertebrates and fish.
