Million Monitor Drive Pizza Parties Scheduled

Facilities Management will be providing pizza parties for the top four performing residence halls in the inter-dorm Million Monitor Drive competition. Abbey (1), Pearsons/ Pearsons Annex (2), Safford (3), and South Mandelle (3) had the largest percentage of students sign the pledge to put their computers in Power Save Mode.

The pizza parties will be held at 9:30pm in the living room of each dorm on the following dates:

Wednesday February 8: South Mandelle
Thursday Feburary 9: Safford
Wednesday Feburary 15: Pearsons/ Pearson’s Annex (in Pearson’s living room)
Thursday Feburary 16: Abbey

A banner celebrating MHC's Million Monitor Drive success will be displayed at the entrance of each dorm the day of each pizza party.

Overall, over 1300 Mount Holyoke College students signed the Million Monitor Drive pledge to enable the power-save features on their computer monitors. In support of this tremendous achievement, Facilities Management has agreed to purchase green energy for the first time in MHC history!

Facilities management will be purchasing 210,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of wind-power Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), also called Green Tags. This zero-emissions wind energy will be enough to power all the MHC student computers, or 170 average homes, for a year.

The members of the campus Million Monitor Drive Coalition (EAC, CE, Safety and Environmental Affairs, LITS, Facilities Management, and the Five-College Energy Manager) thank all students and faculty for continuing to conserve energy and for being conscious of the impact computers have on the environment.
