Housing Lottery

Residence, the lottery and housing system is here: Mount Holyoke Residence

In order to do administrative updates, access to the Room Selection processes will not be available from 4-7 pm Monday through Friday, with the exception of selection days, in which case the processes will be open during this time.

Check out this video to help you figure out if you are eligible to participate in our Housing Lottery process. Students must be cleared by March 25, 2022 at noon in order to be eligible to participate in the lottery. Please note that having only a hold from Financial Services will not prevent you from participating in the housing lottery. Students with an "N" from Dean of Studies, Health Services, and/or Counseling Services will not be able to opt-in to any of the housing lotteries. The Office of Residential Life does not have additional information about these holds and cannot remove them for you.

If you do not see the option to opt-in to any lottery process it means you have a hold and should not be part of any roommate groups.

Please note that once you are cleared, clearance takes about 24 hours to appear in Residence. Clearance happens on a rolling basis so you could be cleared one day and not the next. If clearances occur on Fridays, your access to lotteries won't be available until late Monday.

Check out this step by step guide to our Housing Lottery process.

You can also use Residence from your Smartphone so you don't have to be tied down to a laptop to select your room. If you are having trouble while you are selecting your room, call the Office at 413-538-2088 immediately.

Each phase's selection time assignment will be based on seniority -- rising seniors will have the first selection times, then rising juniors, then rising sophomores. Selection times will be randomly assigned within the class year. No other factors will be involved in the assignment of time, it will be completely random within the class year. Any rumors about it being based on credits earned or GPA are false and have never been a consideration.

Each lottery phase has an opt in process; students will need to opt in to each phase that they wish to participate in. Students may only opt in to one phase at a time, after each phase if a student did not choose a room, the Office of Residential Life will change the student's status to opt out so that they may choose another process to opt in to. For example, a rising junior may want to try for a suite with their friends, should they not get one, the Office will opt out the students so they can then opt in to the singles process.

Students will be given access to those processes in which they are eligible. For example: a rising senior will be given access to the Senior Suites Lottery, Mixed Suites Lottery, Seniors Singles Lottery and the Doubles/Triples Lottery, where as a rising sophomore will have access to the Mixed Suites Lottery and the Doubles/Triples lottery.

You'll have the ability to make a list of "favorites" of the available rooms so you can start a list of all the options you'd like to consider when your selection time arrives. You can also create a "roommate group" within the system to make sure you are sharing a room or suite with the people you wish to live with. You'll need to have a roommate group the exact size of the space you are hoping for -- for example, you will need to have four people in your roommate group in order to select a two room double suite in Creighton. Once the roommate group creation period has ended changes cannot be made to your roommate group. For example, a four person roommate group cannot then try to select a three person suite in Creighton if all the four person suites are gone.
