Faculty: Request a Mentor

When making placements, the SAW program aims to fulfill faculty requests and SAW Peer Mentor requests while ensuring that departments and individual faculty partners are represented equitably across semesters. Eligible courses have substantial, regularly-assigned writing and/or speaking projects with expectations of revision. First year seminars and other small first year courses are given priority.

Placements are made semester-by-semester. Requests are accepted at any time up to the posted deadline and on a rolling-basis thereafter if SAW Peer Mentors remain available. Placements for the fall are finalized by April; placements for the spring are finalized by December.

Faculty partners attend a group meeting with the SAW Coordinator towards the end of the semester prior to the semester in which their partnership will begin. Materials about the classroom-based mentoring program are provided at that meeting. Faculty partners meet regularly with the mentors throughout the semester to discuss their work and they provide a brief and informal report to the SAW program via email mid-way through the term. At the end of the semester, faculty partners and students fill out evaluation forms of the mentor.
