Name: Ayesha Mustafa ’02
Current Title/Profession: Founder of Fashion ComPassion
City: London, United Kingdom
What was your first job after MHC?: Paralegal at a New York City law firm
Favorite class/professor and why: South Asian Politics with Kavita Khory. I loved the subject matter and also Ms. Khory’s teaching style. At that time, I wanted to be a women’s rights lawyer and work in Pakistan, thus this subject matter was of utmost interest to me.
Talents and/or passions discovered at MHC: A bond of sisterhood I formed with other women. I also discovered that women don’t need to compete with each other but can help each other to excel. I started to enjoy writing, became more confident in expressing myself, and realized that I wanted to become a person who creates positive change for others.
What do you value most about your liberal arts education?: A liberal arts education fosters creativity and confidence and made me a more knowledgeable and well-rounded person. I was intrigued to learn about lots of different disciplines and to think outside the box.
Why is a women’s education still relevant today?: Being part of a women’s college helps you focus on yourself and your goals. You form invaluable friendships that last for life, and being around other women helps you understand yourself better.
What do you want the world to know about MHC?: It’s a beautiful haven that nurtures you but also makes you a modern, powerful, and confident woman.
