The Innovator

Carly Forcade has always been drawn to international experience.  As an International Relations and Sociology double major, she leveraged the International Internship Program network and Lynk/UAF funding to intern in India with veteran social entrepreneur Vijaya Pastala (‘89) at Under the Mango Tree. But that’s just 1 of 23 countries she’s spent time in. It was on a trip to Spain when she got the idea to help make international experience safe and inclusive for all travelers. As she recounts, “After a recent trip to Sevilla with my girlfriend I started thinking more about the need for LGBTQ+ travelers to be able to communicate with one another about their travel experiences. I researched advice for LGBTQ+ travelers and realized there was a real need for recommendations, advice and honest feedback from LGBTQ+ travelers. And so...The Travel Unicorn was born.”

The Project

The Travel Unicorn’s mission is to make the world a more inclusive space. Sharing stories of adventure and love from the LGBTQ+ community. The Travel Unicorn is THE LGBTQ+ travel guide. It works to connect LGBTQ+ travelers to safe destinations based on their recommendations.
