In August, Kenya voted to pass a new constitution that included a bill of rights, three branches of government, a rule that 1/3 of the representatives have to be women, and the right for the media to publish what they want.

In January, there will be a referendum in Sudan about whether southern Sudan wants to split off and make its own country. There has been an incredible amount of violence in Sudan over the past 30 years and was especially terrible in the region of Darfur. Many believe that if the referendum passes, there will be much less violence.
