The Prosody of Doctor Seuss

The purpose of this study is to examine the production of books, such as Dr. Seuss, which have unique and predictable intonation patterns. A comparison will be examined between when a book such as this is read to a live audience of young children and when it is read to no audience. Both productions will be recorded. Various characteristics of these readings will be analyzed. The overall goal is to investigate how children learn to read and what part these types of books play in children’s acquisition of reading skills.
