The Pit Bull
18 August 2009
The girl watched wide-eyed
as the pit bull leaped the fence
and ripped her face
stifling the scream.
They say, it would not let go.
The sidewalk would be bloody
for more than a week.
Her best friend had to catch the school bus
on that same block
in a bubble of loneliness and fear.
Children watched wide-eyed from the school bus
as the "Tea Party" moved South,
the contorted faces, signs of the times:
Obama Nazi, Not My President, Death to Obama,
while the grim faced shouted obscenities,
called the president everything but a nigger,
and knew what they were doing.
