Current Situation

History of Region and LRA

Peace efforts currently being conducted in Northern Uganda are beginning to succeed. The Juba Peace Process proved to be quite effective and has helped to dramatically reduce LRA hostilities against Uganda's government and its people. It also has left negotiators with the impression that Kony is, again, possibly ready to consider new peace initiatives. However, poverty is still rampant and contributes to hunger and disease. It also forces internally displaced persons into the sex trade. Other issues facing Uganda include scarred children returning from serving Joseph Kony in the LRA who struggle to assimilate back into civilian life as normal children.
