  • Visiting Lecturer in English

Jude Hayward-Jansen is a feminist scholar and educator of contemporary US and South African literature and Queer/Trans studies. Their work toggles multiple literary and cultural fields while looking at the relationships between the U.S. and South Africa, queerness and history, and whiteness and conservative religious politics. Their current research examines how queerness shaped the rise of the religious right in the U.S. and the collapse of apartheid in South Africa. An educator first, Hayward-Jansen has worked with students from across the educational spectrum: from the university to secondary schools and therapeutic wilderness programs. Whether in the woods or in the college classroom, they approach learning as a democratic process of building relationships across difference.
