About the LRC

The mission of the LRC is to foster innovation and collaboration in the teaching and learning of languages and culture throughout the campus.  We are a resource for both faculty and students, focusing on creative and effective uses of technology.  We strive to promote language learning both inside and outside of the classroom. We believe that the role of a Language Resource Center in the 21st century is less about physical resources and more about community and support.  In the past, you might have sent students to the LRC to listen to tapes, but today, you and your students may visit the LRC to get new ideas and strategies for successful second language acquisition and to connect and collaborate with other instructors and learners.

The LRC at Mount Holyoke College is located in Room 6 on the lower level of the Ciruti Center for Foreign Languages (campus map). The LRC supports language learners and instructors in all of the languages taught at MHC, including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Classics, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish. We also encourage and support language study outside of the classroom context, by all members of the MHC community, including students, faculty and staff.

Building Community

  • LRC Calendar of Events: Watch for a paper copy of the LRC Calendar of Events in mailboxes at the start of the semester for professional development and opportunities to connect with colleagues, as well as language study strategy workshops and other events for your students.
  • Languages-L Email: All language department faculty and staff are included on this email list for regular info and announcements pertaining to the LRC and language teaching/learning. If you're not on this email list and would like to be, please contact the LRC.
  • LRC Blog: Keep up with the latest news, teaching ideas and technology information by following the LRC Blog, which contains articles on pedagogy, language learning technology, news and events, and resources. Twice a year, we also publish a selection of these in a paper-based LRC newsletter, which will be delivered to the campus mailbox of language department faculty and staff.
Contact the LRC if you have not received this newsletter and would like to.
  • MHC Languages Bookmarks: Looking for online resources? The LRC bookmarks websites using a service called “Diigo.” You can browse or search these bookmarks and/or join our “MHC Languages” group to contribute links.
  • Do you “tweet”? Would you like to be an LRC “fan”? Find the LRC on Twitter (mhc_lrc_db) and Facebook (Mount Holyoke College LRC) as well. From your own Facebook account, you can "like" the LRC page, in order to receive updates about upcoming events and interesting language learning resources.
  • These resources are bookmarked on all the classroom and lab computers in Ciruti. Contact us if you’d like help setting these up on your own computer as well.
