Teaching and Learning Initiatives

The Teaching and Learning Initiatives program invests in the development of our faculty, in their many roles as teachers, scholars, artists and scientists. We are guided by research-based best practices in the field, our institutional mission and priorities, the interests of our faculty and the desire to invest in our students’ learning. Particular areas of emphasis include: inclusive teaching and advising practices with diverse students, technology-supported teaching innovations, and experiential learning. Our vision is to become a hub that brings the campus together around excellence in teaching, advising, and learning.

We engage collaboratively in reflective practice. For our advising, we consider the importance of active listening and tapping the campus advising network on our part as advisors and ways to promote active learning and pro-active resourcefulness on the part of our advisees. For our teaching, we continue to learn from the feedback we gain from our students about their learning throughout the semester, and engage in active teaching and learning practices with our students. We find that we benefit from sharing with one another about our collective practice.

It is our good fortune to have Dr. Mary Deane Sorcinelli as the Weissman Center's inaugural Distinguished Scholar in Residence starting in September 2013.

Mount Holyoke welcomes Mary Deane Sorcinelli.
