“Black Noise” is one of the year’s best

David W. Sanford’s orchestral work “Black Noise” is named one of 2019’s top 25 recordings by The New York Times.

As news outlets look back over 2019, many are publishing best of the year lists, and The New York Times is no exception. 

On December 14, the paper’s music critics published “The 25 Best Classical Music Tracks of 2019.” One of the entries was for “Black Noise” by David W. Sanford, Elizabeth T. Kennan Professor of Music at Mount Holyoke College. 

“Why isn’t every major orchestra in America commissioning him?” the column asked.
