Marcella Runell Hall, vice president for student life and dean of students at Mount Holyoke College, has been appointed to serve on the board of the James E. Scott Academy of NASPA, Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education

The Academy is led by a board of 20 accomplished vice presidents for student affairs throughout the world.

“Members of the James E. Scott Academy Board provide advice and thought leadership on critical issues in student affairs and higher education,” said Lynette Cook-Francis, chair of the Academy board and senior vice president for enrollment management and student engagement at Simmons University. “The board addresses current critical issues as well as provides visionary guidance on trends and opportunities in higher education.”

Hall has been involved with NASPA for over 20 years, starting as a regional conference participant as an undergraduate student. She received her first award from NASPA while a graduate student at New York University for a program she co-created called “D-Day,” which focused on campus-wide community and inclusion efforts. Since that time she has been recognized with additional individual and programming excellence awards -- most recently, for the Mount Holyoke program “Be Well” -- served as a conference mentor and has regularly presented at NASPA conferences regionally and nationally, including serving on the faculty for the Aspiring Vice President’s Institute in 2019.

"This is a unique moment in time for a variety of reasons,” Hall said. “I am looking forward to working more closely with NASPA and my student affairs counterparts, to think creatively about the challenges and opportunities we are facing. I am really honored to be selected."
