Why would Log Cabin Republicans back Trump?

Ali Aslam, assistant professor of politics at Mount Holyoke College, explains the Log Cabin Republicans’ surprising endorsement.

Recently, the Log Cabin Republicans endorsed President Trump’s re-election bid for 2020. 

The endorsement has some scratching their heads, and board members of the organization have resigned over the move.

Ali Aslam, assistant professor of politics, says it’s not as surprising as some might think. 

“While it would seem counterintuitive that an LGBTQ organization would endorse Trump, the overrepresentation of upper-income, white males among their ranks likely explains more of their decision-making and affinity for the president,” Aslam said.
