
Laurie Ellington's performing career has spanned musical theater, pop, jazz, and contemporary a cappella. She has performed with ensembles as small as a guitar duet and as large as a 28-piece big band, in locations from New York to Moscow, Boston to Kuala Lumpur, Paris to Izmir. She is passionate about CircleSinging and Collaborative Vocal Improvisation, which she has studied under Bobby McFerrin and some of his closest collaborators, such as Rhiannon, Zuza Goncalves, Tiago Grade and Guillermo Rosenthuler. In 2022, she collaborated with lyricist Elizabeth Bonker to create an album called "I Am In Here."
As a voice teacher in academic and private settings, her focus is on helping students develop a healthy vocal technique, full control of their voices and an artistic style of their own.
Ms. Ellington has extensive choral conducting experience in school settings as well as with Chorus Angelicus (CT) and the Springfield Children’s Chorus (MA). Ms. Ellington began her career in musical theater in Boston and New York as an actor and director and has founded two theater companies. She delights in helping students of all ages find their freest, most authentic voice.
Laurie Ellington holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University and a Master’s in Music Education from Boston Conservatory. Her teachers have included Craig Wich, Maitland Peters, and Judi Vinar.
