Vivian Hsu

Vivian Hsu is the Ombudsperson for Mount Holyoke College and is a confidential, informal, impartial, and independent resource, promoting fairness and equity in the community. As a trained Ombuds and member of the International Ombuds Association, she subscribes to IOA’s Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics.

Vivian is a graduate of Smith College and Suffolk University School of Law. She is the principal of Hsu & Associates LLC, a consulting firm specializing in ombuds and conflict resolution services to businesses and non-profit organizations.

In addition, she develops and delivers interactive workplace training programs for managers, human resource professionals and employees on diversity, anti-discrimination, harassment prevention, management skills and other topics, utilizing her many years of experience as an employment attorney counseling workplaces on effective practices to foster a positive culture. She conducts complex internal investigations as an independent fact finder and provides facilitation services to business and community groups. A skilled mediator, Vivian has served on the American Arbitration Association panel for complaints before the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and on the faculty for the MCAD’s Train-the-Trainer Discrimination Prevention programs. Prior to private practice, she was in-house Division Counsel with Motorola, Inc. and Staff Attorney for the WGBH Educational Foundation.

Committed to community, civic and professional involvement, Vivian has supported non-profit groups and community organizations. She has been in leadership roles with many organizations including the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), the NAPABA Law Foundation, the Community Dispute Settlement Center, and continues to assist in advisory capacities. She is the Chair of the Personnel Board for the Town of Needham and is a member of the Needham Unite Against Racism Initiative (NUARI), having also been a facilitator in the Boston City-Wide Dialogues Project on Racial and Ethnic Diversity and for the Summit on Leading Diversity, a national diversity conference.

Vivian has served in appointments to the Boston Regional Selection Panel for the President’s Commission for White House Fellowships, the Massachusetts Trial Court Standing Committee on Dispute Resolution, the Massachusetts Bar Association Dispute Resolution and Labor and Employment Section Councils and the Boston Bar Association Labor and Employment Law Section. Supporting the advancement of women leaders, Vivian has been an active member of the Boston Club, was a President of the Women’s Business Network and has served as board member of the Asian Women’s Connection. She has supported the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence (ATASK) Silk Road Gala, EmPower Business Women’s Breakfast, and other community events.
