Coleman Freedman: a dynamic MHC modern dance duo

Terese Freedman and Jim Coleman are co-artistic directors of the FREEDMAN/ COLEMAN DANCE COMPANY, which has toured to more than 30 states, as well as to Austria, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Poland, and Taiwan. The company has been produced at numerous venues, including Jacob’s Pillow, Dance Theater Workshop, Bates Dance Festival, the Salzburg Dance Festival, Seattle Performance Hall, Dance Umbrella of Boston and numerous universities and dance centers throughout the country.

Working collaboratively as choreographers, Coleman and Freedman have received choreographic commissions from many companies and colleges, including Concert Dance Company (Boston), Danceworks Northwest and D9 Dance Collective (Seattle), Dancers Unlimited (Austin), Fusionworks (Providence), Chicago Moving Company (Chicago), the Silesian Dance Theatre (Bytom, Poland), Bates College, University of Washington, Weber State University, Roger Williams University, Middlebury College and others.

Coleman and Freedman have received two Choreography Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as choreography fellowships and special project grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Their company has been on the National Performance Network and the New England Touring Roster.

Prior to forming the Freedman/Coleman Dance Company, Jim Coleman was a featured soloist with the Bill Evans Dance Company (Washington) and a founding member of Tandy Beal and Company (California); Terese Freedman was a member of the Bill Evans Repertory Company and toured internationally with the Nancy Spanier Dance Theater.
