Women’s Experimental Cinema (FLMST 340)

Instructor: Robin Blaetz

Women’s Experimental Cinema examines avant-garde cinema made by women from the earliest days of the cinema through the 1990s, with a concentration on the movement known as the American Avant-Garde, which began in the 1940s.

While the class will read feminist film theory and see the work of filmmakers working within the paradigm of this theory, we will also examine less familiar but highly influential films made by women working in what Laura Mulvey called “counter-cinema.”
