Climate Justice Lab launched at Mount Holyoke

The Daily Hampshire Gazette recently explored the new Climate Justice Lab initiative of the Miller Worley Center for the Environment at Mount Holyoke College.

While the federal government is reducing resource allocation for climate science, Mount Holyoke College has launched the Climate Justice Lab, a pioneering initiative of the Miller Worley Center for the Environment (MWCE). The aim of launching the lab is integrating climate justice into the College’s core curriculum and campus engagement.

“It feels like we now have a responsibility to really be the ones to push the needle and to move things forward as other people are having to stall,” said Olivia Aguilar, director of MWCE.

Under the leadership of Aguilar and Vanessa Rosa, associate professor of Latinx studies and critical race and political economy, the lab focuses on intersectional social impacts of the climate crisis, specifically addressing how climate change disproportionately affects marginalized communities and linking environmental issues to gender equity, labor and economic justice. Work in the lab centers these perspectives, preparing students to become global leaders capable of implementing equitable solutions.
