Four key steps to take before finishing an internship

Summer may be ending, but Jenny Watermill, senior director at the Career Development Center at Mount Holyoke, advises on four key steps students can take before ending an internship and coming back to campus.

Completing an internship is a key way for college students to connect with their career goals.

“Internships are an invaluable way to explore careers of interest, to build confidence and competence and to develop professional networks,” said Jenny Watermill, senior director at the Career Development Center (CDC). “Sometimes, through an internship, a student learns that a career they aspired to is actually not a great fit. Learning this early provides an opportunity to make a career pivot.”

As the summer winds down and Mount Holyoke College students start planning to return to classes, Watermill spoke with Fast Company about four steps interns should take to ensure they get the most out of their experience.
