The Program
Research Associates are qualified individuals seeking a connection with Mount Holyoke to further their scholarly projects. Eligible candidates are those with active academic interests holding or pursuing advanced post-baccalaureate degrees, including those who previously taught full-time at one of the Five Colleges; partners or spouses of faculty members employed at one of the Five Colleges; independent scholars in the Pioneer Valley without an appointment at one of the Five Colleges; and scholars actively working on a research project with a Mount Holyoke College faculty member. In all cases, sponsorship by an active Mount Holyoke College faculty member is required.
There are three levels of Research Associate status. The Provost Office, in collaboration with the sponsoring faculty member, will determine the appropriate level. In all cases, this is an unpaid appointment; travel, housing, and living expenses are the responsibility of the Research Associate. Office space is not available.
Application
Appointments are made throughout the year for a period of two years. Applications from candidates will require a project proposal (up to three pages in length) and a curriculum vitae. Project proposals should include 1) a detailed description of the project and timeline, 2) a statement about the contribution and significance of your project for research and teaching in the field; 3) how an affiliation with Mount Holyoke College will advance the project; and 4) what level of Associate status is requested and why (please request only the privileges necessary to complete the particular project). Proposals should be submitted by the sponsoring faculty member.
An Associateship may be renewed or extended with the approval of the sponsoring department and the Provost and Dean of Faculty. Sequential applications must demonstrate significant progress and the benefit of continued affiliation with Mount Holyoke.
Please submit the required materials to the Office of the Provost and Dean of Faculty. For further information, contact provostsoffice@mtholyoke.edu.
