Examples of workshops offered by Public Safety and Service

This list is not exhaustive. If there is something special you are looking for, we will design a program around your needs. All classes can be tailored to the need of your residence, department, or organization.

This workshop includes a presentation and question/answer period to help you learn strategies for keeping safe in the case of an active threat on campus. A presentation can be scheduled at your convenience and conducted at your location.

The presentation describes effects of alcohol and drug use and explains the laws and consequences of abusing them. Fatal Vision Goggles are used as part of the workshop part of the program, so you can safely see the effects of alcohol on your driving ability using a golf cart through a track of traffic cones.

The department can provide information regarding bicycle equipment, safety equipment, locking devices and the laws pertaining to bicyclists.

The skills you'll learn during the process can make all the difference to someone in need. Contact Kevin Fournier at 413-538-3494 to request a class.

The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic defense tactics and techniques. It is a comprehensive course for women that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance and progresses to the basics of hands-on defense training. The R.A.D. course offered by the Department of Campus Police is taught by certified R.A.D. instructors.

Discussions can be custom tailored for the individual groups program, with topics vary based on the specific needs and requests of the inviting hall.

Examples:

  • Our introductory talks is ideal for new students who may have questions about safety, the role of Public Safety and Service, parking, or who are just curious about what resources are available to them.
  • Social gatherings where members of the area can ask questions, and build a working relationship with the department.

Please contact your liaison officer if you would like a Hall Talk in your area. We are happy to discuss other ideas.

You can also schedule an officer to be a part of your own program.

Public Safety and Service can come out to campus offices to provide versions of our programs geared toward faculty and staff, such as the S.A.F.E. program, department security audits and campus personal safety workshops. Contact us to request a presentation.

A basic safety workshop based on crime prevention and safety awareness. Offered as a 1 hour self-defense program to educate and share vital information about personal safety to the community. The S.A.F.E program is an introductory to a more advanced self-defense training program such as the Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) program. Public Safety and Service can assist you in arranging for an instructor to come to your location for programming in a community room.
