Digital Fabrication: Fimbel Lab Revolving Organizer

Designed in Rhino CAD software and built with birch-veneer plywood, the organizer has 44 drawers arranged radially in five tiers, all of which spin independently.

In the spring of 2019, Miranda Schmidt ’19 designed and built a multi-tiered lazy-susan organizer for the Fimbel Lab sewing and textiles station. Miranda, an Architecture major and Fimbel Lab student employee, knew firsthand the challenge of keeping the sewing station organized and accessible for multiple users.

Designed in Rhino CAD software and built with birch-veneer plywood, the organizer has 44 drawers arranged radially in five tiers, all of which spin independently.

As part of this self-designed independent study project, Miranda learned to use a number of woodworking tools, including the Shopbot CNC machine and its associated software.
