New associate vice president of human resources named

Jake Toomey has been appointed as the associate vice president of human resources for Mount Holyoke College.

Mount Holyoke College has announced the appointment of Jake Toomey as associate vice president for human resources. He previously served as the associate vice president of human resources at Hampshire College.

Toomey brings over 20 years of experience in human resources and personnel management, with the majority of his experience in education in western Massachusetts. He will start his position in March 2024.

“I’m so excited to be joining Mount Holyoke College,” Toomey said. “It’s very evident Mount Holyoke has a rich culture and community made up of many passionate and dedicated employees at all levels. I’m very appreciative of being given this opportunity to serve the employees of Mount Holyoke as the new associate vice president for human resources.”

Toomey joined Hampshire College in 2020 as the senior director of human resources. While there, he provided leadership and overall strategic direction in all areas related to human resources and built support for changes and enhancements in all areas of the employment cycle. Previously, Toomey was employed at Greenfield Public Schools. He joined Greenfield Public Schools in 2010 as a teacher. In 2015 he was appointed personnel administrator and, later that year, promoted to principal. While principal, he provided human resources support at the district level, offered guidance to other administrators, led recruiting initiatives and participated in union contract negotiations.

Before joining Greenfield Public Schools, Toomey was the general manager for First Transit/Franklin Regional Transit Authority and operations manager for the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority. Toomey is also a veteran of the Army National Guard, having served for 10 years, including a one-year deployment in Iraq in 2005. He holds a master’s degree in education leadership from American International College and a bachelor of fine arts degree in education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
